Dayton & Western Traction Company

Dayton & Western Richmond freight bypass route on 23rd Street, looking south across Grand Boulevard. The bypass was built through Glen Miller Park in 1909 to get freight cars off of Main Street. It turned from 23rd to the right onto Grand which becomes N E Street in a couple of blocks. The cracks in the street and oil stains appear to show buried tracks but they are just coincidental. There is a report that residents petitioned to have the tracks removed from the park and by 1913 they were torn up. What happened after that is unclear. There does not appear to be any evidence of tracks or grading in the park either. The local street railway ran along here as well, with a track into Glen Miller Park, but sticking to the north side along the Pennsylvania Railroad's tracks. They had a small terminal just east of the pond to provide service for workers at the large railroad yard north of the park.
