Photo of the Cincinnati Western tunnel west portal during construction of Baltimore Avenue in the early 1970s, looking southeast from the roughly graded new road alignment. Fey Apartments is barely visible in the background at the bottom left. The small size of the hole in the side of the hill suggests that this could be the top of the excavated part of the tunnel, or even some partial cave-in, with the rest buried by fallen rock. Based on the rough amount of earth moving this is probably 1972 or 1973, since I-74 wasn't completed until 1974. Photo by Donald Eilermann, provided by Melvin L. Garrison.
