C&O - Chesapeake & Ohio to Russell, KY - CSX, Cincinnati Terminal Subdivision
Historic photo of the old 4th Street Station, looking south across 4th Street in 1929. This building was a house that the C&O bought to house their station. Although Central Union Depot was just a stone's throw from the C&O Bridge approach (its roof is barely visible at the left), their trains had to go west to ground level, then back into the station. This was a slow and clumsy maneuver, so they built their own station here, which was at virtually the same height as the bridge. A small freight depot for the C&O is visible behind this building, with a gable roof. The low building at the left remains today, nestled between the multitude of ramps for the I-75 and Ft. Washington Way interchange.
