CL&A - Cincinnati, Lawrenceburg & Aurora Electric Street Railroad
CL&A electrical substation along US-50 at the Ohio/Indiana border, looking southwest. This substation and another one just like in Fernbank were built when the CL&A abandoned their own power facilities and started buying electricity wholesale. Using AC transmission lines and DC converters at these two substations, they were able to greatly improve power reliability and maintain voltage at Aurora, Harrison, and Anderson Ferry, which had historically had power issues due to the direct-feed DC current from the original power station in North Bend. Note the matching concrete blocks from the building near Cleves Junction. Photo by Lou Lockwood.
